Jeff White

Co-founder and COO

Jeff is passionate about innovation and the commercialization of technologies with great Canadian teams. Jeff has worked with and held CFO roles with companies such as Deloitte, IMagicTV, Q1 Labs, and Genesys Laboratories Canada. He was the Chief Financial Officer for Radian6, and executed its sale to Salesforce.com in May 2012.Jeff brings with him more than 20 years of successfully leading ICT companies through Canadian and US venture capital financings, Cross-border IPO’s and international M&A activities.

Jeff’s senior financial leadership has helped companies from angel stage financings through to profitability and international expansion. He has taken a company public on the NASDAQ and TSX, and sold a publicly traded company to international buyers.As the COO of East Valley Ventures, Jeff focuses on the entrepreneur to help create a cohesive extraordinary team; assist with idea iteration (ideation) and finally on capitalizing their company.Jeff is past Chair of PropelICT, a former member of Atlantica Centre for Energy, and currently a Board Member of Enterprise Saint John.Jeff is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and a Chartered Accountant.As a former Varsity basketball player for St.Francis Xavier University, he is the senior coach at their summer camp. Locally, he coaches basketball, soccer, hockey and lacrosse in minor sports leagues.Jeff lives in Saint John with his wife Cathy and three children Matthew, Jamie and Stuart.

Gerry Pond

Co-founder

Gerry Pond has over 45 years of in-depth experience in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector. As the CEO of NBTel and the President of its successor, Aliant Telecom, he was at the helm during a period of significant deregulation in the Canadian industry. Under his innovative leadership, NBTel emerged as an international ICT leader.

Born in Quebec and raised in New Brunswick, Gerry Pond’s educational achievements include a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Brunswick; Organizational Effectiveness Program, Harvard University; Executive Program, McGill University; and Senior Executive’s Program, University of Western Ontario.

Pond is the Chairman and Co-Founder of Mariner Partners Inc., and has co-founded a number of successful ICT start-ups in Atlantic Canada, including iMagicTV, Q1 Labs, Brovada Technologies, Radian6, Shift Energy and Cirrus9. He is also the Co-Founder of Propel ICT, a start-up accelerator, the Co-Founder of the Pond-Deshpande Centre at the University of New Brunswick, and the Co-Founder of East Valley Ventures, an accelerator for Atlantic Canadian start-up companies with a mission of helping passionate entrepreneurs launch meaningful and enduring technology companies. He is a Director of Upside Foundation, NB Business Council and the National Angel Capital Organization.

Gerry Pond has received many honours, both regionally and nationally, including the prestigious 1997 Canadian Information Productivity Association (CIPA) Innovator of the Year and Hall of Fame, the NB Knowledge Industry Recognition and Achievement (KIRA) Awards Person of the Year in 2002, the 2003 Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, Atlantic Business Magazine’s Top 50 CEO Award in Atlantic Canada in 2003 and 2005, an Honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of New Brunswick, and an Honorary Doctor of Commerce from Saint Mary’s University. For his tireless contribution to regional economic development, he was inducted into the New Brunswick Business Hall of Fame in October 2007.

An inspiring innovator and social entrepreneur, Gerry Pond also earned recognition as 2011 Canadian Angel of the Year from Techvibes & KPMG. In 2012, he received the Canadian Red Cross Humanitarian award for New Brunswick. He was twice honoured in 2013, first by The Learning Partnership as a Champion of Public Education, and then as the recipient of the Order of New Brunswick for his innovative spirit and critical contribution to many of New Brunswick’s IT and telecommunications success stories. At the 2014 Canadian Startup Awards, Gerry Pond’s passion for supporting innovation and entrepreneurship was recognized with the prestigious Wolf Blass Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2015, he was awarded the first-ever Business Development Bank of Canada Entrepreneurship Champion – a national award that recognizes the achievement of a Canadian entrepreneur and community leader who has created and grown one or many successful small or medium-sized businesses while significantly contributing to the prosperity of the Canadian entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Most recently, Gerry was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada. It is the cornerstone of the Canadian Honours System, and recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.

Bob Justason

Co-founder

With an exceptional range of technical and leadership expertise, Bob is highly regarded for his accomplishments in the IT Industry. He brings a deep understanding of innovation and a clear vision of the path to success.

Bob is also the Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of Mariner. Prior to joining the Mariner team, Bob held a variety of senior positions with NBTel and Aliant Telecom, including VP, Broadband Engineering, VP, Engineering and VP, Technical Solutions and Support.

Bob’s expertise spans the full range of IP and broadband networking applications and technologies. In addition to leading Aliant Telecom’s Broadband infrastructure deployment, Bob directed the development of industry-first IP applications, including IP Centrex, TV on the PC and the world’s first IP TV service to deliver multiple MPEG TV streams on DSL technology. Bob has also led the technology development and implementation of self service and service improvement software and tools for both HSI and IP TV.

Bob was instrumental in establishing NBTel as the first Canadian telephone company to provide internet service, and he led the technology strategy to deliver a widely respected contact center program which delivered over 10,000 seats of agent technology to world-leading contact center operators, including Fortune 500 clients.

As a co-founder of East Valley Ventures and COO for Mariner, Bob continues to demonstrate innovation in advanced technology management and operations, and triple play IP applications including IP video. Bob is a director of Mariner and serves as a volunteer mentor with the Wallace McCain Institute, Propel ICT and the UNBSJ MBA program. Bob’s educational background includes a Diploma in Communications Electronics, and numerous advanced technology management, product development and leadership studies.

Craig Storey

Executive in Residence

Craig’s career has seen him play a number of Executive roles, including President of SHIFT Energy, and President of Mariner Innovations, the IT Consulting division of Mariner. Previous roles included Vice President, National Sales and Business Development for FCT; Assistant Vice President, National Sales and Business Development for FCT; Vice President of Advanced Solutions for FCT; National Sales Executive with a Global IT solutions provider; and Vice President and General Manager for Innovatia.

In his spare time, Craig serves on the Board of Directors for the New Brunswick Information Technology Council (NBITC), and acts as a coach for several youth basketball teams. Additional community roles have included Chair of Community and Economic Development Commission (Miramichi), Vice President of the Rotary Club, United Way Campaign Chair (Business & Industry Committee), MBA Advisor for the University of New Brunswick, volunteer with the New Brunswick Youth Apprenticeship Program, and a member of the Saint John Board of Trade’s Business Mentorship Committee.

Craig holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Industrial) from Dalhousie University (formerly Technical University of Nova Scotia).

Bob Neal

Co-founder

During his 25 years at NBTel/Aliant, Bob continually looked for ways to monetize the wealth of innovation that was being created by employees. Much of that was done with partnerships and the incubation of several start-ups. Bob was actively involved as a member of the leadership team of companies such as NBTel Mobility, ISM Datacor, Connectivity, Imagic TV, Prexar and Innovatia.

After Bob retired from his Senior VP-Business Development position at Aliant, his desire to mentor and coach young entrepreneurs continued. He is tireless when it comes to guiding startups.

Bob is past President of Junior Achievement and has been a Board Member of more than 15 startups.

Bob’s entrepreneurial spirit, enthusiasm and his ongoing support are great assets to East Valley Ventures and its Innovators.

Pam Beyea

Office Manager

Pam comes to East Valley after working for Bell Aliant for over 30 years where she held various clerical and management positions. While assigned to IT Delivery projects at Bell Aliant, she developed a keen interest in Business Change Management – the “people side” of projects, where she was able to display her empathetic intelligence. Pam’s intuition, creativity and problem solving abilities correspond with East Valley’s vision.
